Warding off a winter chill can be delicious, relaxing and Ayurvedically healthful all at the same time. Knowing what ingredients work best for your constitution is a great bit of knowledge to have when creating your own recipes. We recently foundthis appwhich offers a lot of guidance on everything from figuring out your own constitution what foods work both seasonally and for your dosha.

Here are a couple of warm drink ideas to add to your Ayurvedic recipe box.

The Hot Smoothie Namaste Nightcap Ayurvedic

As mentioned in our previous post aboutgreen smoothies, a warm smoothie is a great option for the cold season. Here's Kate's recipe for an Ayurvedic smoothie for fall and winter:

Chop and combine in your blender:

  • One apple
  • Two pears
  • 1/2 tsp.all spice blend of cardamom, cloves and fennel
  • 1 heaping tsp.cinnamon 

Heat and drink

Tea to Please

A ginger tea is great in cold weather, and with the right ingredients, you can make one up that is tailored to your tastes, right at home.
In your favourite mug add:

  • 2 Tbsp.grated ginger (you may want to put this in atea infuser
  • 1 heaping tsp.maple butter 
  • butter orghee(a type of clarified butter that is used frequently in Ayurvedic cooking) to taste

Steep five minutes and enjoy.

The Namaste Nightcap

You'll need:

  • Juice from one lemon
  • 1 heaping tsp.honey (for less sugar, try 1/4 tsp. honey and a few drops of stevia extract)
  • 1 oz.rum (substitute a sprinkle of ground cayenne pepper and a cinnamon stick for a non-alcoholic version)
  • 1/2 tsp. butter or ghee

Add half to all the juice from your lemon to your mug. Top with hot water, then stir in honey, rum and ghee and enjoy.
