Where will #namasteNewViews take you?If you have ever thought about trying water yoga or aerial yoga, but have not yet made it to a class, there is an interesting option that might already be in a back yard near you.

A Trampoline!

Think about it: similar buoyancy to water, that airy, open, suspended feeling... what do you have to lose? Your yoga mat, perhaps, as the trampoline surface is rather similar in texture and traction. You might gain some added levity to your practice and your being, as it is quite difficult to be intense when you are on such a pliable, reciprocal surface. Begin with the Earth sequence to get acquainted with your slight departure from gravity; then move into Firebird to give your balance and agility a real challenge!

Earth... with less Pull...

If sitting in Hero pose on your usual surface poses difficulty, prepare to take similar comfort measures on a surface such as a trampoline. Keeping your toes tucked under your feet instead of lengthened may be enough to compensate for the way the trampoline surface gives with your weight. Plank pose has a different feeling altogether, as now keeping your weight distributed evenly across both hands requires more thought and core stability! You will need to keep the focus on even lateral balance through both sequences of the body, and also remember to keep shoulders relaxed and low.

Find #namasteNewViews all around you. Child's pose becomes clearly defined, as you can look through the fabric of the trampoline and partake in the whimsy of an aerial view of tender blades of grass. Notice the springs of the equipment and immerse yourself in their call to lengthen and separate the coils of your spine in Upward Facing Dog. Enjoy the security of having the body in close contact with your grounding, giving surface, as you are about to experience its antithesis: a Firebird in its infancy once more.

Firebird... out on a Limb...

Just as the young bird perches precariously on the foundational branch of its home, you may find yourself working to attain steady balance, even in Mountain pose! The pace of Firebird is one of the fastest in the Namaste Yoga series, and adding the time you need to absorb the reverberations of your movements renews the challenge of keeping with the rhythm of the sequence. How will you compensate? What will your reaction be when you burst from your Forward Fold into Hero pose, and feel that downward motion reflected back into upward energy? If you do it and do not laugh, you might want to do it again! The Firebird pose is extra challenging, as you do not have surface resistance to work against to lengthen through the grounded hip and upper body, but if you keep lifting from your chest, the pose improves.

"Every obstacle you meet in life can be seen as a block, or an opportunity."

Added bounce can only mean expanded opportunities. Let the heaviness that comes with seeking perfection ebb away with the waves of calm and happiness usually reserved for youthful play.
