Erica Blitz is a moving picture of inspiration and passion. The vast array of talents and interests she embodies swirl around one constant: yoga. Deeply centered in her practice, Erica uses that grounded energy to bring forth a teaching style that encourages awakenings of highest potential in her students.

From an Ayurvedic standpoint, some of her greatest strengths can be directly attributed to her Vata-Pitta nature. Never staunchly locked into personal preferences, her focus and interests change as her life situations and needs warrant. Rarely stuck, she’s always inspired and eager to encourage others to shine brightly.

Erica has been studying and practicing yoga since 1996. A self-described "international adventuress and relentless architect of possibility," she currently teaches classes, workshops and teacher trainings primarily in the United States and Canada, and also writes and works as a yoga life coach. In this first of our two-part series, we invite you to get acquainted with Erica Blitz.

Namaste Yoga (NY): "What is your personal motto?"

Erica Blitz (EB): "Without a doubt, Sutra 2.1: 'tapah svadhyaya ishvara-prindhana kriya-yogah'. I once wrote about some of the concepts of this sutra for Yoga Life Dubai. The sutra translates as 'Burning zeal in practice, self-study and study of scriptures, and surrender to God are the acts of yoga.'"

NY: "What is your favorite yoga pose?"

EB: "That changes all the time, but at the moment it's a toss-up between Vasistasana (One-Arm Plank Pose) and Urdhva Dhanurasana (Upward Facing Bow). I've been loving backbends lately, but if you ask me again after a while, I may have a different reply."

NY: "When do you most like to practice?"

EB: "It really depends on where I am and what my schedule demands, so that fluctuates all the time. When I'm off leading a yoga teacher training, I practice meditation and chanting in the morning and then asana in the evening. Since returning from filming Seasons Three and Four, I have been practicing both asana and meditation in the evening as I teach early in the morning at 6AM."

NY: "What is your favorite food?"

EB: "My husband's cooking... and berries! Raspberries and blueberries are the best — oh, and anything green like kale, dandelion, arugula. The list goes on and on."

NY: "What does a Master Yoga Teacher do when she feels stressed?"

EB: "Yoga! Deep breathing is a wonderful elixir for stress."

NY: "What can you tell us about the new seasons?"

EB: "The new sequences are accessible to all levels of experience. There are more challenging poses, including Eka Pada Galavanasana (Flying Crow Pose), Bakasana (Crane Pose) and more! We've sequenced the poses in such a way that an added level of difficulty presents itself in the cultivation of core stability and mind focus."
