As excitement intensifies over the creation of our third season, you may find yourself wondering, "Who are these new Namaste Yoga instructors, anyway?" It is our distinct honour to introduce them to you! In this installment, we chat with Judy Swens, Wanderlust Wayfarer, Sunshine Coast Yoga Festival organizer and co-creator of Prakriti Yoga Retreat in Costa Rica.

Judy Swens saw a post about auditions for Namaste Yoga's third season through the Vancouver School of Yoga's community group. "I checked the website and loved the notion behind the show and the beautiful scenes of yoga outdoors," she explains. When recalling her audition, Judy says, "I probably performed the most shaky yoga ever!"

The Basics

Personal Motto: "Be the change you want to see."

Favorite Food: "Avocado and raspberries, but not together."

Favorite Yoga Pose: Dancer's Pose.

Favorite Yoga Style: Jivamukti. "Yoga allows you to live in the moment and let go," Judy says. "You can create a free mind, body and heart so your true nature can shine brightly."

These sentiments were expressed most fully while Judy took a yoga class atop Whistler Mountain at the Whistler Wanderlust Festival. "Experiencing the elements fully as it began to shower and most everyone stayed" is one of Judy's most inspiring yoga moments to date!

Just For Fun

Off-the-Mat Fun: Surf or Snowboard.

On-the-Mat Crazy: "Crow Pose transitioning into Head Stand, and then to Chaturanga... or bawling my eyes out while seated in a hip-opening pose, Gharaudansana at one of Sean Corn's classes."

Best Yoga Mat Color: "Raspberry, because when playing the 'What's Your Yoga Mat Name?', it translates to 'Goddess Sweaty Pants.'"

While not on set for #NamasteS3, Judy is happily and busily planning the first ever Sunshine Coast Yoga Festival.

"We hope to not only showcase yoga, but also local artists, musicians and food vendors," Judy explains. "I am excited to teach a joint class with my childhood friend Nicole Fowler, called Yang + Yin + You." The festival will be held September 6-7, 2014 at Porpoise Bay Provincial Park in British Columbia. "We have launched the website and the first 100 tickets are now being sold at a discounted rate of $40 for the whole day," Judy says. "Quite a steal!"
