Movement Fundamentals

a new program developed by Slava Goloubov exclusively for Namaste TV

welcome to the program

The more we resist being a beginner, the more we close the door to learning new things. The more we close the door to growth.

Welcome to the Namaste Movement Fundamentals program with Slava Goloubov. We are so happy you’re here! We selected the ten fundamental movements in this program to help you connect with the joy of moving. Well, maybe *reconnect* would be a better word. As children, we constantly moved, played, and expressed ourselves with our bodies. When do we stop doing that? Since incorporating these movements into our routines, all of us at Namaste, and the many students that attend Slava’s classes, have brought us back to that inherently capable, playful, and curious nature.

This program is for everyone. It is for the advanced yogi, for the recovering couch potato, for the young, for the old, for the injured, and for the curious.

The best way to use this program is to establish a solid foundation in each of the ten movements. You can use the ‘Learn’ section of the Training Plan for this. Next, work on conditioning the movements so that you develop your muscle memory and increase your strength, exibility, power and control. You can use the ‘Train’ second of the Training Plan for this.

Once you are familiar with the movements, you can begin to sequence them together and unlock the joy of creative expression inherent in building a movement practice. We have included some ideas for creative sequencing in this PDF, but you will find many more ideas and inspiration in the Facebook group and by watching the Movement Leaders.

Slava Goulobov

Teacher

Whatever your background, integrating more comprehensive movement patterns into your life will be of benefit. The appropriate amount of challenge will present itself to you through this program. Everyone will be a beginner, whether you identify as an “advanced yogi” or a “recovering couch potato.” This program is designed to strengthen body and mind, to compliment pre-existing movement practices such as yoga, running, team sports, etc., to be a catalyst for more creative outlets of expression, and to be a chance for us to come back to our inherently capable, playful, and curious nature.

Amanda Riches

Creative Producer

After a decade of yoga practice I found myself with various injuries and wondering why I didn’t feel like my body moved efficiently or functionally. Sure, I was flexible, but something was missing. When I started working with Slava and began incorporating these fundamental movements into my practice, I realized how imbalanced my body had been. When you can move your body freely without pain, magic happens. This program will unlock that magic for you, just as it did for me. I’m proud to say that everyone will benefit from it - from advanced yogis and movers to children and older bodies. I can’t wait to see where it will take you!

Brand Manager

I definitely wasn't the kid who could do a cartwheel! I never took gymnastics or dance classes when I was younger. But for over a decade now, I have developed a deep understanding of what it means to be able to move. It's incredibly empowering. I've built a deep connection to my body through my movement practice. It's the kind of therapy that we need in a culture centered around sitting and repetitive motions. I want to share movement as fuel for our bodies, minds, and hearts. I want you to feel as empowered, connected, healthful, and happy in your body as I do.

Gabriela Schonbach

Executive Producer

I used to play more. I used to run around and play and just move. When did that stop? When did I become too scared of injuring myself that I stopped moving my body? The movement practices in this program have helped me reconnect with the joy of moving. I hope they’ll do the same for you. I’m so grateful to Slava for showing me that feeling old is not an inevitable part of aging. These practices will empower you to age gracefully and to regain the freedom in movement that we all enjoyed in our youth.

More about movement

A Movement Master in the Making

"You need to be constantly trying new disciplines and patterns in order to exercise and expand your plasticity. By constantly allowing yourself to be exposed to new, complex, and changing variables, you will stay flexible both physically and emotionally, rather than growing stiff or stale with time."

The Importance of a Movement Practice

"When you awaken the body, you create space to awaken the soul. You create space to awaken your dreams, to answer the question “what moves me?” And you create the discipline and strength to turn those dreams into your reality."

The Four Pillars Of Movement

"Movement is comprised of four pillars: strength, flexibility, power, and control. Some can exist without the others, but not to their full potential, or not without becoming detrimental after standing alone for too long. Others simply cannot exist without their counterparts."

Why Everyone Should Learn a Cartwheel

"You may think you can’t do a cartwheel. Perhaps you’ve tried since reading this article and that seems to be true. Well, we’re going to tell you something that you already know but may have forgotten. The biggest obstacle between you and a cartwheel is yourself."
